Fund Set Up for Family of Woman Set on Fire in Underhill Avenue Elevator

Money will help with funeral and travel expenses for family of Delores Gillespie.

Community members have set up a fund for the family of Delores Gillespie, 73, who was on Saturday.

The money will be used for funeral expenses and travel expenses for relatives. The funeral will be held after Christmas, according to Prospect Heights Councilwoman Letitia James, who helped set up the fund.

 who was always trying to help those in need, whether by helping people find jobs, or setting up a feast outside her building for the homeless every Thanksgiving.

“We come together to support a local family in need today,” James said in a written statement. “I believe that it is the responsibility of the community to hold up their neighbors in tragic times such as these; therefore we will do whatever we can to make sense of this gruesome crime, and more importantly to help put the lives of the family members of Deloris Gillespie back together.”

Jerome Isaac, 47, a handyman who Gillespie fired 18 months ago, family members say, turned himself in to police Sunday and . He is due back in court Friday.
