Fire at Atlantic-Flatbush LIRR Train Terminal

Dozens of firefighters called to track fire this evening.

Dozens of firefighters rush to the Long Island Railroad's Flatbush Terminal tonight to put out a track fire, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire was called in at 5:45 p.m. and about 35 firefighters in eight trucks responded, according to the FDNY.

Power to tracks 4 and 5 was temporarily shut down. The fire was small enough to allow firefighters put out the flames with fire extinguishers, rather than a hose, the spokesman said.

The blaze was under control by 6:26, the spokesman said.

The fire was caused by rubbish on the tracks, the spokesman said, adding that such fires are common.
