Eastern Parkway Fire Injures 2 Babies, 6 Adults

Two adults suffered moderate injuries, while the rest were minor in early morning blaze at Brooklyn Avenue.

An early morning blaze on Eastern Parkway near Brooklyn Avenue sent eight people to the hospital including two babies who suffered minor burns.

In addition to the infants, two adults sustained “moderate injuries” and four people, including two firefighters, went to the hospital with minor injuries. All were sent to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan, which has a burn unit, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire broke out just before 6:58 a.m. at 706 Eastern Parkway, the spokesman said.

“Everybody was yelling ‘Fire, get out!’ You could see the smoke coming out of the windows," said Flora, a tenant in the building who declined to give her last name.

About 60 firefighters battled the blaze, which demolished much of the three-bedroom apartment where it was sparked. Several hours later, the smell of smoke still permeated the air around the building and workers were busy boarding up the apartment’s windows.
