Police have more information about what caused the firefight. According to them, the four to five men entered 74 Albany Ave. with their guns out and announced a robbery.

They began taking people's property. When they reached the officer and realized he was armed, they began to assault him. It was at that point the officer drew his firearm and shots were exchanged, according to police.

One suspect, a 19-year-old man was found by cops laying in front of the store with gun shot wounds to his leg and shoulder. The other suspect, who was a shot in the neck and face, was a 21-year-old man. The remaining suspects fled. The two suspects that are hospitalized are both listed in stable condition, according to police.

The injured officer was taken to King County Hospital where he also is listed in stable condition, police said.

A Hi-Point 9mm gun was recovered from in front of 58 Albany Avenue. The investigation is ongoing, according to the NYPD.

An off-duty Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority officer was shot during a botched robbery attempt at an auto repair shop on the Bed-Stuy/Crown Heights border at 8:23 p.m. tonight, police said.

The TBTA officer was in the shop, located at the corner of Atlantic and Albany avenues, when several men walked in and announced a robbery. A gun battle ensued, police said.

The officer was shot in the shoulder and one of the robbery suspects was shot in the leg and the shoulder. A second suspect, shot in the neck and face, was able to walk across the street to Interfaith Hospital, police said.

It has not been determined who started the shooting, or who shot whom, an NYPD spokesman said.

About an hour after the shooting more than a dozen police officers and detectives were crowded into the auto shop.  Some of the streets around the hospital were blocked with police tape and reporters took cover from the pouring rain at the deli next door.

Abo Aldhafari, owner of Deli Express said he ran outside as police cars arrived.

“I saw the cops and a lot of people outside,” he said.

While the firefight took place, a baby shower was in full swing in the building’s second floor. Marques Palmer, 11, had just left the shower on his way to the deli when the robbery took place, but after he heard the shots, he ran back upstairs.

“We heard a lot of noise,” he said. "Everybody said, stay here, don't go anywhere."
