Pacific Street Mugging and $31K Jewel Heist: Reports from the 77th Precinct

Plus a car left on cinder blocks near Carlton Avenue and a wallet theft at a local bar in this week's Prospect Heights-area crime reports.

Woman Pushed Down, Mugged on Pacific Street

A 33-year-old woman was thrown to the ground and robbed during a late-night robbery on Pacific Street.

The woman between Washington and Grand avenues at about 12:45 a.m. on March 16 when someone came up to her from behind and pushed her to the ground. He then took $40 out of her pocketbook and ran off. The woman suffered scrapes to her knee. 

Three hours earlier, a woman was held-up at gunpoint and hit with the gun on Dean Street. 

 

$31K in Jewels Stolen From Apartment

A 46-year-old woman told police that $31,350 worth of diamond, sapphire and gold jewelry was taken while her apartment was being renovated. The woman, who lives on St. Johns Place between Plaza Street East and Underhill, said she's been living elsewhere during the renovations and that the contractors have keys.  

There were no signs of forced entry and the fire escape window and front door were both found locked.  

 

Above the Rim

A sly crook stole two tires and rims off a car parked on St. Marks Avenue and left the car on cinderblocks on March 11.

The 50-year-old victim told police that he parked his Honda Accord between Sixth and Carlton avenues at around 12:01 a.m. on March 11. When he returned to get his car that same day at around 9:55 a.m., the passenger-side tires and rims were missing and the car was sitting on cinderblocks. The victim told police that the crook stole two stock 17-inch rims and two Michelin 17-inch tires, a total of $1,470. Police said that the crook left the lug nuts on the ground near the car. 

 

Franklin Park Fight and Wallet Lift

Two crimes took place at Franklin Park early Saturday morning.

A 23-year-old man was charged with third-degree assault after punching a man the bar at 618 St. Johns Place at Franklin Avenue, and a 20-year-old woman had her wallet stolen. Both events happened between 3 and 4 a.m. on March 16.

In the first crime, the 21-year-old victim said a man followed him out of the bar after the two had an argument and hit him in the face at about 3:15 a.m. About three hours later, the 24-year-old suspect was arrested. 

Then, at about 3:30 a.m., a 20-year-old woman said someone stole her wallet, which had $50 in it, from her jacket pocket.
