Cops Hunting Attempted Rape Suspect

Woman fights off attacker in a Crown Heights laundry room.

Police are looking for a man suspected of assaulting and trying to rape a woman inside a Crown Heights laundry room over the weekend.

A 26-year-old woman was in an apartment building laundry room near the intersection of Prospect Place and Howard Avenue Sunday afternoon when a man came up to her from behind, grabbed her around the neck and threw her to the ground, police said.

The man then straddled the woman, pulled down his pants and tried to rape her. The victim was able to fight off the man and get away, sustaining minor injuries on her face and arms.

She described the man as in his 40s, black, standing 5-foot-eight-inches tall and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds (see sketch and video in the photo gallery).

The attack took place on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 2:45 p.m.

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8447).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All call are strictly confidential.
