606 R&D Shines with Restaurant/Pantry Combination!

Prospect Heights' newest darling on the dining scene is a tasty triple threat with breakfast, lunch and dinner!

City Bakery alums and almost immediately it became a hot spot (more proof that this area needs more great restaurants as they will be packed!). I tried to wait until the excitement of its opening died down but I’ve been three times and the place hasn’t died down one bit!

Like most places in Brooklyn, this spot is small, but the size perfectly suits 606 R&D. Hopefully the community board will allow them to make use of the amazing backyard patio they just created for spring and summertime dining (ahem ahem)! I checked out the back patio last month and let me tell you… it will be one of the best places to eat outdoors in the area.

Every time I walk in, I’m greeted with a friendly smile and casual conversation … everyone here is super friendly. The atmosphere is charming—just a handful of tables in the back and counter service in the front.

Being City Bakery alums you know the food (especially the pastries) is totally legit … in fact it is spot on. The owners really care about where they source their ingredients from and feature local products as much as possible. The menu is limited (a dozen or so options), but the food is beautifully balanced and delightful. The lunch sandwiches are perfectly portioned and offer unique flavor combinations, the donuts are ridonkulous (I want one every morning with my coffee), and the pantry they sell goods out of features great breads, cheeses, meats and the like! My personal favorite item is their zucchini and ricotta sandwich with radicchio, lemon and red onion on multigrain bread. It is divine!

Don’t miss out on their Sunday Suppers which feature $20 family style dinners you can eat-in or take-out! At lunch the place isn’t too crowded but if you go for brunch or dinner it’s best to go early … or put your name in, walk around for a bit and they’ll call you when your table is ready. This place is not to be missed!
