Do New Year's Eve Right in the Heights

Our roundup of prix-fixe dinners, dance parties and other events around the neighborhood.

Still looking for a fun way to ring in 2012? Whether you prefer to dine on fabulous food, cut loose and boogie, or count down with the kids, here are eight local options to help you do so close to home.

 

Dinner:

at 755 Dean Street has a wallet-friendly $35 prix-fixe menu at 7 p.m. of three courses with comfort food such as crab cakes, pan-roasted chicken and pecan pie. A $45 seating at 9 p.m. includes a Champagne toast. 718- 783-3326

The Vanderbilt at 570 Vanderbilt Avenue is offering a four-course $60 prix fixe dinner menu, with classical options including pork pate with pear mostarde; cauliflower soup with oysters and caviar; duck breast; gnocchi and more. Plus, all guests receive a complimentary glass of Champagne. 718-623-0570.

James at 605 Carlton Avenue has two inspired prix-fixe menus on the big night. For $75, there's seating between 6:00-8:00 p.m. including 3 courses plus a Champagne toast. For $95, the seating is at 10 p.m., with 4 courses and a Champagne toast. Expect fanciful dishes such as Lamb Osso Buco with parsnip purée topped with a sweet marjoram-and-pumpkin-seed gremolata 718.942.4255.

Dancing:

Flatbush Farm at 76 St. Marks Avenue is hosting its 4th annual Dance Party starting at 9 pm. Multiple MCs will be spinning until 4 a.m. of 2012, including DJ IROC, Scotch Tape, Timothy and Derek C. No reservations needed; no cover. 718-622-3276.

, 629 Vanderbilt, will offer the musical stylings of DJ Juicy to help you burn a hole in the dancefloor. All that is required to get down is $15 at the door, which includes one drink and a Champagne toast. 718-230-8393.

at 683 Washington Avenue plans to revisit the 1980s en route to 2012 with their New Wave Eve Party, featuring classic new wave dance tracks and a series of John Hughes films playing in the background for ambience. Free. 917-279-5412

Dinner and Dancing:

Abigail Café at 807 Casson Avenue keeps New Year's Eve jazzy for the hepcats. $60 will land you a 4-course dinner, Champagne and dancing. Reservations, which are recommended but not required, are available by calling 718-399-3200.

For the Kids (and You):

One of your closest (and cheapest) options are the Grand Army Plaza fireworks, with hot refreshments and entertainment beginning at 11 and the fireworks at the stroke of midnight.
