The Way Station Music Festival Day 5: The Royal Oui + B&X + Lucid Lion + Reggie Williams + Aaron Zimmer + Cornell Bros. + Plugged-in Painless Parker + Damian Quiñones y su conjunto + Get Open

3pm- The Royal Oui (Vancouver)
For fans of: Simon and Garfunkel, She and Him, Calexico

The Royal Oui is married couple Adrienne Pierce and Ari Shine’s new band. Close harmonies evoke Fleetwood Mac and Fleet Foxes in songs that would fit on playlists with The Civil Wars and Wilco. Their successful solo careers include dozens of TV placements on shows like Grey’s Anatomy, direct support for artists like Ray Lamontagne and Chris Shiflett (Foo Fighters), making the 2013 Grammy ballot and showcases at SXSW, NXNE and festivals worldwide.

“Ari Shine and Adrienne Pierce have been recording music for years, working separately as solo artists before carving out The Royal Oui’s hazy, swooning sound together...The EP is called Forecast. And things are looking bright.”— American Songwriter

The Royal Oui is a Vancouver-based duo playing a style of folk that features acoustic guitar with reverb, minimal percussion and some spectacular vocal harmonies.  This is really beautiful stuff - her high, light vocal and his understated style mesh well together, and based on this song, they create a highly evocative sound behind the vocals.-When You Motor Away

8pm- Cornell Bros.
Genre: Original Acoustic American Roots Music
For fans of: Bluegrass, The Band, The Stanley Brothers, CSNY, Walt Whitman

Original songs of redemption and hope, featuring farmers, sailors, dancers, fathers, lovers, Abraham Lincoln and The Knights Templar. Denizens of Brooklyn's South Slope, the Cornell Bros. (not brothers in fact, but brothers in music) have been playing NYC for three years, developing their soulful take on founder and songwriter Greg Cornell's tunes, with tight vocal harmonies in front. Many instruments will show up at their gigs: fiddle, guitar, banjo, mandolin, upright bass, harmonica, sometimes lap steel and piano, as well as a pared down drum kit that helps them rock and roll. They bring energy and joy to their musical sojourn.

9pm- Plugged-in Painless Parker
Born under a barstool in Saskatoon and raised by a pack of wild koalas, Painless Parker plays a mixed bag of country laments, sea shanties, murder ballads and classic rockers, filtered through a grimy, whiskey-stained punk lens. He's fluent in two languages, and can cuss in at least seventeen. He enjoys rabble-rousing, shindigging, booze drinking and
merrymaking.

10pm- Damian Quiñones y su conjunto
Genre: Rock and Roll
For fans of: Funkadelic, WAR, Os Mutantes, Bood, Sweat, and Tears, Willie Colon, Neil Young & Crazy Horse

An 8 piece outfit fronted by singer/guitarist/songwriter by Damian Quiñones, they are currently supporting their self released album, "Gumball Ma-Jumbo!"(2012).

Akin to a mix tape made from his uncles old vinyl collection, Damian Quiñones and his band "El Conjunto" are sonically funky, expansive and colorful.
Quiñones songwriting is a heady stew of 60's rock and roll, Nuyorican funk, with a nice helping of tropicalia, and Afro-Caribbean sounds to boot.

"Damian Quiñones y Su Conjunto’s new album Gumball Ma-Jumbo - streaming in its entirety online - is a masterpiece of tunesmithing, an intricate mix of oldschool late 60s style psychedelic soul, rock and pop spiced with salsa, luscious horn charts, bubbling keys and nasty guitars."-Lucid Culture
