10pm- Sean Coleman and the Quasars
Genre: Rockabilly, R&B
For fans of: Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Howlin' Wolf
Sean Coleman & the Quasars are notable arrivals to NYC’s rockin’ scene. Though they’ve been kicking around the New York City bar scene for about two years, honing their original-era rock’n’roll offering, they are now coming to the forefront of the city’s greaser subculture. Sean first unleashed his signature howl as part of the Boston scene fronting The Bourbonaires and The Swinedells. He then relocated to New York City to find a killer band: And he got it.
The Quasars rip out primitive, gutbucket sounds rooted in the jump blues tradition, deftly folding in aspects of R&B, Rockabilly, Gospel and Soul. Sean’s performances are that of a southern bible-thumper under the spell of the Devil’s music; he’s got the frantic energy of Jerry Lee and Little Richard and a visceral wail that’s somewhere between Howlin Wolf and Mickey Hawks. Witnessing a Quasars performance is like witnessing an exorcism, and that’s beginning to garner them major attention from the national and international rockin’ scene. With a brand new hot piece of wax ready to release (45 rpm, if you please), they’re definitely a combo to watch.
“Sean Channels the fire that Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis used to spew. He sings with the passion that comes from gospel via the church and early Rhythm & Blues… and it’s about the feeling… Sean’s singing makes you feellike there’s a fiery Sermon going on. There’s the idea that Good and Bad are in the room having a fight, and the
outcome matters.” -Blowfish, via Boston Groupie News
“Sean has a great R&B-styled gruff voice a la (Billy Lee) Riley or Billy Gayle of the Rhythm Kings. He Hollers in fine style with a Chester Burnett style quaver in there too.” -Phil Davies, Rockabilly Hall of Fame.
“Speaking of Little Richard, singer Sean Coleman has a big league Rock N Roll shout that closely approximates that particular idol of his… Coleman shimmies, shakes, and works a room as if it’s the Apollo or Grand Ole Opry…” -Jonathan Perry, Boston Globe
“A growling, howling, badass of a front man.“ -Q Division Studios, Boston
“Sean was just inspiring!” -Boston Groupie News
