Po' Boy and Ukelele Ed + Franglais + Bonsai + Ben R. Mackie @ The Way Station

8pm- Po' Boy and Ukelele Ed
Genre: Jazz/Blues/Rock
For fans of: Ukeleles, Fedoras, and Kazoos

These two street rats play originals and covers of jazzy, bluesy, bopping, popping, rootsy songs with a peculiar charm all their own. Ukelele Ed plays an eclectic repertoire of covers/originals from old jazz standards like "Dinah" to Rolling Stones "Paint it Black" on the Ukelele. Po’ Boy brings a ragtime New Orleans flair to anything he touches with a style all his own and a wooden kazoo that he plays like a trumpet. They have been tickling the fancy of audiences of all ages all over the metropolitan area.

“Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen, I’m Mr. Po’ Boy Reinhart, going to play some popping bopping bluesy rootsy tutti frutti groovy covers and originals for you. And this first one comes from Mr. Langston Hughes of the Harlem Renaissance. Lyrics from him, music by me it’s called the “Bound No’th Blues.”

What happens when Manouche swing in the tradition of Django Rheinhart meets American straight-ahead jazz?

We think we have the answer, and hope that it would have both Django and Duke Ellington dancing in their graves, along with our very alive and well audience.

Franglais--pronounced [frahn-GLAY] is the homecoming of American in Paris back to Brooklyn.

11pm- Ben R. Mackie
Genre: Folk, Country, Americana
For fans of: Neil Young, Whiskeytown, Townes Van Zandt, Big Star

Melbourne, Australia songwriter Ben R. Mackie “mixes folk and country inspired sounds with a distinctively Melbournian soul” (Beat Magazine) to create music that is stripped back, delicate but rough-around-the-edges: An outsider’s slant on the Americana genre.

No stranger to the world of live music, Mackie has been performing in bands since he was just a kid, along the way taking out many of Australia’s finest music prizes (including the country’s largest alternative radio station Triple J’s “Top Song” competition). Recording deals followed, as did tours with some of the nation’s finest musical acts.

In late 2013, Mackie (now 26) decided it was time for a change of scenery. Armed with his Hummingbird, harmonica and a deep love for the rich history of American music, he left behind the comforts of his band and city for a new beginning in Brooklyn, New York.
