Community Corner

Lava's 10th Anniversary Handtand -a-thon!

The Handstand-a-Thon is LAVA’s unique annual community fundraising event to fund
LAVA’s community programs, including 30 weeks of FREE Community Class
for kids, an ongoing partnership with P.S. 9 including performances and classes
for pre-k through 5th grades, and free, open performance events like
LAVA’s works-in-progress, Night of Renegades (adult open-mic) and Magma Mix
(performances by kids).  Combined, LAVA’s programs offer performances and
instruction for over 1,500 people in
the Prospect Heights and Crown Heights neighborhoods each year.

The LAVA
Studio will host its 10th Annual Handstand-a-Thon on Saturday, Nov 2nd,
3 – 7pm.   This year, the event is more
ambitious than ever – aiming to log a collective 10 hours of handstanding to
commemorate 10 years of Handstand-A-Thons. All in
service of raising $25,000 for LAVA’s community programs.  This year, LAVA throws open the doors to its Prospect
Heights, Brooklyn studio for a block party style event featuring dancing with
DJ Tikka Masala, Brooklyn food trucks, a 50/50 Raffle, special handstanding
feats of strength and wonder, as well as special guests and activities through
out the day.  Handstand experts, as well as first-timers young and old,
will gather to log seconds and minutes standing on their hands, racing to meet the 10 hour sum by the end of the event.

Seasoned handstanders and newbies
alike are encouraged to raise donations by creating their own fundraising pages
and pledging to do a handstand at the Handstand-A-Thon.  Go to  www.LavaBrooklyn.org for instructions on how to register.
