Oneg Speaker: Abraham Rabinovich, author of "The Yom Kippur War"

This October
marks 40 years since the Yom Kippur War in Israel - a life-altering event for
the country, and for the world.

Join us for this important talk by
the man who "wrote the book."

Born on New York's Lower East Side, Abraham Rabinovich served in the U.S. Army and graduated Brooklyn College. He worked as a reporter for Newsday and other New York area dailies. Five days before the Six Day War he arrived in Israel as a correspondent. At war's end he decided to stay on and spent the next two years researching and writing The Battle for Jerusalem, an account of the 1967 battle. He then married and began work as a reporter and feature writer for The Jerusalem Post. Among his other books are The Boats of Cherbourg and Jerusalem on Earth. His major work is The Yom Kippur War, which involved five years of research and writing.

“The best general history of the Yom Kippur War. The writing is clear, compelling and precise and offers a good understanding of both the military operations and the political
developments that accompanied the war. At both levels,
it was a fascinating war. Beautiful, precise and sometimes
poetic language…Outstanding.”
 PROF.BENNY MORRIS, HA’ARETZ

"Rabinovich's prose is both compelling and intelligent. A seamless, riveting narrative reminiscent of the books of Rick Atkinson or Stephen Ambrose. Penetrating insight into the Israeli military and political mind. Never before has the Israeli experience in the Yom Kippur War been so sensitively and intricately documented."MICHAEL OREN, WASHINGTON POST

“Truly striking. Rabinovich’s book is brilliant, sweeping and insightful.” PROF. W. ANDREW TERRILL, NAVAL HISTORY

“Its revelations are astonishing. Its prose is gripping.
Its conclusions, richly documented and austerely
objective, are intensely
relevant to the Middle Eastern crisis of our own day.”
PROF. HOWARD M. SACHAR, AUTHOR OF "A HISTORY OF ISRAEL: FROM THE RISE OF ZIONISM TO OUR OWN TIME"
