Fireworks Performance by artist Judy Chicago: A Butterfly for Brooklyn in Prospect Park

Join us on Prospect Park's Long Meadow for a A Butterfly for Brooklyn, a monumental site-specific pyrotechnic performance piece by artist Judy Chicago presented by the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance.

Reengaging with a series she began in the late 1960s, Chicago uses pyrotechnics to transform imagery used in her iconic installation, The Dinner Party, into a fusion of color and dazzling visual effects. Measuring approximately 200 by 180 feet, the piece will appear to levitate, swirl, and move.

The project is being held in conjunction with the exhibition Chicago in L.A.: Judy Chicago’s Early Work, 1963–74, on view at the Sackler Center from April 4 through September 28.

An integral component of this important presentation of Chicago’s early work, A Butterfly for Brooklyn celebrates Chicago’s significant contributions to the emergence of large-scale environmental works of art while also giving her the chance to offer a gift to Brooklyn in honor of her seventy-fifth birthday.
