Crazy Times with Nick Sweets and Hoodie @ The Way Station

9pm- Maharadja Sweets

designs his shows using cheap "99 cent store" technologies: handheld cassette recorders as dj scratch tools, little casio keyboards, plastic disco balls, squealing balloons, and more. He shares the stage with a mysterious ancient wooden metronome called "The Time Machine." He plays a "steampunkuitar" which emits light in addition to sound.

10pm- Hoodie Allen

Nick’s sound spans the likes of Jelly Roll Morton to Mos Def, Andrew Bird to the Roots, & Woodie Guthrie to Janelle Monae; with a performance aesthetic that ranges from Charlie Chaplin to Reggie Watts.  His sets include performing improvised comedy, music, and pre-written songs, all using a loop pedal to engage the audience in a “Bobby Mcferrin like” fashion.

As a solo performer/musician, he’s been seen at the Tonic Room, Gallery Cabaret, Subterranean, Metropolis Coffee Roasters, the world famous Green Mill, Showtime at the Apollo (regional), & March Madness Competition to name a few.  In hist very short time in New York, Nick has performed at Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Pete’s Candy Store, the Way Station & Hanks Saloon.

Last summer Nick participated in a vocal improvisation and circle singing intensive with Bobby Mcferrin & members of his “Voicestra,” after which followed his first EP, Fella Hitzgerald, which can be downloaded for free at: http://nickdemeris.bandcamp.com/
