Don Paris Schlotman + The Sensational Country Blues Wonders! + Nicole Mercedes & the Affair + Everyman + The Visions @ The Way Station

7pm- Don Paris Schlotman
Genre: depressing space folk
For fans of: Smog/Bill Callahan, Nick Cave, David Byrne, Elvis Costello, Lou Reed

Don Paris Schlotman is the bass player and co-founder of The Sky Captains of Industry. His songs mix moments of punk energy with laconic downtempo introspection, the basic idea being that it’s better to walk away wondering what it all meant. He sings about outer and inner space as a metaphor for the human condition and means every word.

“...[on his cover of Niall Connolly’s] “Summer Dress“ a song which is easy to think of as a sideways look at adolescent male fantasies, especially hearing Don singing it, with memories of his teen idol antics still fresh in my mind. This is Don in a Lou Reed meets Johnny Cash mode, with the banjo and reverberating whistling adding to a sense of understated, yet mysteriously present, anarchism. It’s a kind of mix of Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” and “Perfect Day”...

Genre: sophisticated pop
For fans of: owen pallet, joanna newsom

Nicole Mercedes and the Affair are a Brooklyn-based band, their sound somewhere in between indie-pop and a snowy night. Their music has a distinct and sophisticated sound, layered with clever beats, dreamy string arrangements and thoughtful lyrics. Best enjoyed with a glass of red wine.

"There's plenty for the indie masses to enjoy here, and also plenty for fans of more conventional sounds to get their teeth into" -sound of confusion (uk)

10pm- Everyman
Genre: R&B/Funk/Rock
For fans of: Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Dave Matthews

Everyman is a group of musicians who intend to take the popular music genre in a new direction. Their sound incorporates elements of rock, jazz, blues, funk, soul, reggae and hip hop. John, Dylan and Allen have been together as Everyman for over six years. All three of these guys were child performers who have matured into marvelous musicians and sophisticated songwriters. Although they have been separated for periods of time due to individual musical and scholastic obligations, they have remained dedicated to each other and to their never ending quest to achieve a higher state of musical nirvana in their next live performance.

“If you’re looking for something smooth, silky, tender, passionate and infused with tasty jazz licks and funky beats, Everyman is undoubtedly for real.” –Jim Testa

11pm- The Visions
Genre: Pop/Funk
For fans of:  Prince/ Haim/ Frank Ocean

The Visions are brothers Ben and Michael Shugarman and longtime friend Ryan Brooks. They write, produce, record, and perform all of their music. Their sound lives at the intersection of pop and funk, in the possibility of a new destination, a different approach to songwriting. To hear them live is to feel their musical heritage in the raw. In between then and now, The Visions are on the road.
