Recycling Pick-up is Suspended, Really

City hopes to resume pick-up next week.

UPDATE: Jan. 6, 4:40 p.m.: The NYC Department of Sanitation has not yet retured repeated phone calls asking whether people will be given fines if they do not bring their recycling back inside.

The Department of Sanitation is not going to be picking up recycling until at least the end of the week, a department spokesman said.

But apparently they're not getting the message out.

Up and down the streets, residents have optimistically put their recycling out.

Recycling pick-up is delayed until the backlog of garbage can be picked up, said Department of Sanitation spokesman Matt LiPani.

The city hopes to have all trash collected by the end of the week, meaning recycling pick-up is likely to resume next week.

And the communication problem?

LaPini said the Department of Sanitation has been getting the message out through 311, notices on its Web site

 residents should call 311 if they trash pick-up or recycling questions.
