5 Perfect Thanksgiving Pie Recipes

Whether you prefer pumpkin, apple, pecan, sweet potato or pear walnut tart, we've got a recipe that will knock your socks off.

Thanksgiving is a day of tightly held traditions. For some, pumpkin pie is a necessity. For others, pecan or apple is what brings the feast to a proper close.

Whatever your dessert of choice, we have a recipe for you. Below are five great Thanksgiving pie recipes from chefs in Brooklyn and across the country.

Brandied Pumpkin Pie

From Prospect Heights food columnist Melissa Clark, here is a fantastic pumpkin pie recipe. She brings it every year to our family Thanksgiving (except for this year, when I will try it), so I can say with first-hand knowledge that it's worth the effort.

Traditional Apple Pie

From Arlington food writer Jill Lewis, a great options for those sticking to tradition.

Pear-Walnut Tart

From Illinois chef Erin Bailey, a nice twist on traditional Thanksgiving desserts.

Sweet Potato Ginger Custard Pie

Also from Melissa Clark—for those who can't imagine Thanksgiving without sweet potato pie.

Spiced Maple Pecan Pie with Star Anise

A final one from Melissa Clark, that includes a twist on tradition.

Me too, though my sister brought a killer apple pie to Thanksgiving, which may become my new favorite. Harriet, what else do you do with pumpkins?

Buy pumpkin coffee, pumpkin muffins, and all sorts yummie things made with pumpkin. They now make pumpkin cheese cake but, I never tried it. There are even pumpkin doughnuts. But, I buy the other things. This year we went to a restaurant for Thanksgiving and we had pumpkin pie for dessert, which was out of sight!!!
