New Year's Day is going to be rough—we know this. Whether you stay up all night swigging champagne or are just bummed to have to go back to work, you are going to need the healing powers of brunch.
Here are 10 spots that have confirmed they will be open:
Carlton Park The sister restaurant to Burrito Bar recently changed its menu from organic-local to eclectic American, and is having a Grand Re-Opening on New Year's Day. Flatbush Avenue at Park Place.
Sunshine Co. This restaurant and soon-to-be cocktail bar started by the owners of Milk Bar opened just over a week ago during daytime hours, and will be open for brunch on New Year's Day. Preliminary reports on the food and service are quite good. Washington Avenue at Sterling Place
Pequena A Mexican restaurant and bar with fantastic food will be serving brunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Order the breakfast tostado with refried beans, guacamole, pico de gallo and two fried eggs, the Chilaquilees Verdes, fried tortilla strips with chicken, cheese and salsa or the stuffed peppers. 718-230-5170. Branded Saloon The friendly Western-themed bar will be serving up their smoked shrimp tacos, frito pie and other delights from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vanderbilt Avenue at Bergen.
Le Gamin will also be serving brunch from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Even with a killer hangover, a café au lait paired with a croque monsieur (ham and cheese) or saumon fumé avec crème au basilic (it's salmon, zucchini and basil cream), will at least make you feel like a cool Parisian. Tom's Restaurant will be serving brunch from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Get the "famous" eggs benedict, or (if you're up late enough), try the "Perfect Combination of Lunch and Breakfast," where you get two eggs with either chicken, meatloaf or pastrami, and some French fries or grits for good measure. Washington Avenue at Sterling Place
Burrito Bar will be serving brunch from noon to 4 p.m. followed by dinner. They have a mix of traditional American fare (french toast, pancakes and a shrimp and cheese omelette) and Mexican options such as huevos choriqueso and breakfast tacos. 307 Flatbush Ave.
606 R&D will be serving brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by dinner beginning at 5:30 p.m. 606 Vanderbilt Ave.
Cheryl's Global Soul will be serving brunch from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. but will not be serving dinner that night. 236 Underhill Ave.
Little Zelda will be open regular hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers baked goods, quiche and cheese and other light fare along with a full coffee and wine bar.
Dean Street will be serving brunch beginning at 11 a.m. Corner of Dean St. and Underhill.
Also:
Beast will be closed for brunch but open for dinner.
Ample Hills, which has a full coffee bar in addition to ice cream, will be open from noon to 10 p.m.
Sit & Wonder They don't have much in the way of food, but if you just want coffee, and maybe one of their fab baguette sandwiches, the Washington Avenue cafe will be open from 10-5.
