Ice Makes Walking Treacherous, But Most NYC Subways and Buses Running Fine

While the ice isn't causing any train delays, it makes for hard walking.

While the major storm predicted for the Eastern part of the country didn't bring more snow to Prospect Heights, it did give us a sheet of ice, making for a slippery commute – especially now that it is covered with three-quarters of an inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Trains and buses are running, though some have delays. The biggest problem for commuters is the ice on sidewalks, roads, and subway steps, so use extra caution, MTA and NYC officials caution.

The B/Q and 2/3 lines were running normally this morning, but there were delays on the 7, A/C/E and J/Z lines, according to the MTA. Check the MTA site for the latest update.

Buses may be delayed but are running, though limited-stop buses have been suspended. If you're heading to Long Island, the trains are running on a weekend schedule, according to the MTA.

According to the National Weather Service, the rain is moving east. But flooding will still occur in some areas due to piles of snow blocking the drains. There is also a danger of ice falling from trees and power lines as the temperatures rise into the high 30s today.

But don't put your Wellies away: It's going to drop back into the 20s overnight, making for an even icier commute tomorrow morning, according to Accuweather.com.
