'Babyccinos' Hit Prospect Heights' Cafes

The small decaf cappuccinos, or simply a cup of steamed milk, is apparently gaining popularity with Brooklyn parents.

“Babyccinos,” mini decaf cappuccinos or frothy cups of steamed milk and foam, are the hot new drink for kids at local cafes like Sit and Wonder, says the Brooklyn Paper.

The owners at started selling the $2 after parents began asking for it – the Paper says that the trend started in Australia, where babyccinos are now all the rage.

The article points out that a decaf shot of espresso contains less caffeine than a soda, and that babyccinos can also be made with just steamed milk and a pinch of cinnamon on top.

And with Brooklyn’s love affair with coffee stops, maybe it’s no wonder that kids are getting into the action before they can walk and talk.

“My child has been going to cafes since he was a newborn,” Katherine Haver, a freelancer who brings her son to cafes with her, told the Paper. “ ‘Coffee shop’ was one of his first words.”

New York Magazine’s Daily Intel blog checked out the article, too, calling babyccinos “one of those things you wish you could un-learn or just write off as complete fiction.”
