Allergy Sufferers, Welcome to the Thunderdome

By Matthew Hampton

Spring means many things to allergy sufferers: itchy eyes, runny noses, the occasional headache, popping Zyrtec like they're Tic-Tacs.

And the next few days are about to be a carnival of horrors for these poor souls.

According to Weather.com's "PollenCast" things are going to go from bad to worse Wednesday through Saturday, with "high" and "very high" tree pollen counts exploding all over Brooklyn.

The most active trees during this period will reportedly be mulberry and oak, so when you're shaking your fist and cursing, be sure that those are the names on your lips.

Hurricane Sandy also bears responsibility for the allergy hell this week, since the various molds from the flooding are now releasing spores, adding to the deluge.
