3. Harness your creativity: The deadline for the 2013 Summer Streets artist request for proposals has been extended until March 1.The project enables artists or artist teams to create "interactive, site responsive installations" to complement Summer Streets, during which certain main drags in the city are shut down to vehicular traffic for three weekends in August, enabling residents to play, walk, cycle and run. Selected projects will be granted up to $5,000. Interested? Apply here.

4. Stare into the fire. If you happen to find yourself in Carroll Gardens between 6 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, don't be alarmed by the giant fireball you may see exploding in the sky off of Union Street: It's for a TV show, and yes, the police are aware that it's happening.
