Celebrate Dr. King's Dream at Medgar Evers College this Monday!

As the nation prepares to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King Commission and Medgar Evers College are collaborating to honor his life through the eyes of the children.

The event will feature student performances, including artwork, dance ensembles, art, essays and more. A tribute will be paid to the late Congressman Major Owens, founder of the King Commission, during the ceremony. Chris Owens will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Highlights of the event include:

· Award-winning performance by the Ifetayo Youth Ensemble, which was first performed at the White House for First Lady Michelle Obama

· Display of student award winning artwork

· Community award presentation by borough president Eric Adams

· Excerpts of winning poems and essays by student contest winners

· Presentation of a gift, book or educational toy to every child who attends

“For each child present, we want to create a memorable moment that will lead them to explore more about Martin Luther King, Jr. and how his teachings relate to our lives, today,” commented Congressman Major Owens before his passing.

In its 29 year history, more than 10,000 students have participated in the Commission’s contests and other activities. More than $200,000 in cash awards and prizes have been distributed to participating students.
