16.4 days from settlement to money on our clients’ hands. That’s making good on a promise of moving every case as fast as possible.

At the Schlitt Law Firm, we promise our clients that we will move fast for them. That promise applies to all aspects of a case including getting our clients paid. We conducted a study of all cases closed in the last seven months and it showed that the average time from settling a case to when we deliver money to our clients is 16.4 days. Now that’s fast!

Once we settle a case, we need to work with our client and the insurance company to deliver the settlement money to our client. This process has seven key steps:

1.      The client must sign release papers

2.      We submit the release papers to the insurance company

3.      The insurance company has up to 20 days to issue the check

4.      We receive the check from the insurance company

5.      We deposit the check in our escrow account

6.      The check clears

7.      We issue payment to our client

Getting Our Clients Paid Fast

Getting clients paid fast takes commitment, creativity and attention to detail. Carol Schlitt explains, “Years ago, I took many cases on referral where I was the trial attorney. I would get paid at the same time the attorney of record paid the client. I found myself waiting for many weeks, even months, for payment. I swore, I would never make my clients wait like that. And we never will.”

Here are some of the key steps we take to ensure fast payment:

1.      We obtain the release immediately from the insurance company. Whenever possible, we draft the release so we can move the process faster.

2.      We work with the client to have the release signed as fast as possible. We can email the papers and we can notarize papers in our office.

3.      As soon as we receive the signed papers from our client, we fax or email them to the insurance company as well as send hard copies overnight. Many insurance companies will process the checks based on receipt of an email.

4.      We ask. Simply working with the insurance company and asking an adjuster to move the check along makes a difference. So we ask on behalf of our clients.

5.      And we say thank you. After the check arrives, we call the adjuster to thank him or her for her assistance. It’s important to recognize the work that others do.

6.      The day the check arrives, we deposit it in our escrow account. We have our clients provide a limited power of attorney and a photo ID so they do not have to come to our office to sign the check. That let’s us move all the faster.

7.      As soon as the check clears, we issue payment to our clients. We like to wire the money to our clients’ bank accounts so the money arrives instantaneously.

It’s not enough to simply say you will move a case fast. We have to make it happen. Getting clients their money in 16.4 days after settlement is making it happen. And we’re not satisfied. We want to get that money to our clients even faster. We’ll keep working. We love coming through for our clients.
