Wash Ave Rocks! Coming Saturday

(A Brooklyn street fair for foodies, fashionistas and families.)

Celebrate community and local businesses at the third annual

Saturday, August 18 Washington Avenue will be decked out from St. Marks Avenue to Prospect Place. Hosted by the Washington Avenue-Prospect Heights Association, the event celebrates the history and future of Brooklyn’s Washington Avenue.

“The festival is a mean for creating fun,” said WAPHA President Dana Ottey. “Our businesses are doing well because of the support form people who live and visit the neighborhood, our focus is community and giving back to the people that support us.”

“It’s the whole shop local idea,” Ottey said.

Highlights will include a fashion show for the sartorially inclined, a step performance, a Food Taste-Off and face painting and water slides for the kids.

Here's the schedule:

1pm: Food Taste-Off judged by food critics from Grub Street, Saveur Magazine and Edible Brooklyn; the appetizer contest winner will receive a trophy from Letitia James. (Last year , will they triumph again?)

3:30pm: The nationally acclaimed Double Dutch group the Stan’s Pepper Steppers

4:30pm: A Fashion Show featuring local hair salons, boutiques and local designers parading the runway
