Upcoming Dean Street Music, Events Venue Has Locals Excited

Locals are excited about the mega-community space that will open this fall at 1000 Dean Street.

The transformation of 1000 Dean Street from a commercial building into a food court, events venue and creative workplace has Crown Heights locals and workers pretty excited, according to DNAinfo.

“We think it’s going to be the next hot spot, that little nook we found,” said Diana Mora, co-owner of the upcoming Classon Avenue bar and music Friends and Lovers. “The neighborhood needs music.”

Since the Dean Street project was announced last autumn, a host of business owners including Mora and partner Eric Sossa have invested in the area. Bushwick’s 3rd Ward, a workspace with wood and metal shops as well as photo studios, is opening a test kitchen space in the building.

Mora said she is excited about more live music and dancing options becoming available in the neighborhood.

"I grew up dancing – we would go out in Brooklyn after church to my aunt’s house and everyone was playing drums and you’d put Celia Cruz on and everyone would start dancing,” she said. “That’s what we did every Sunday. To not be surrounded by that is just crazy.”
