The St. Catherine Rolls Out Food, Coffee and WiFi

Month-old Washington Avenue bar expands hours and offerings.

Washington Avenue's newest bar is now its newest cafe as well.

The St. Catherine, which opened four weeks ago on the corner of Bergen, began its daytime guise as baked-goods-and-java-only coffee shop April 1. It added dinner and weekend brunch last week.

The menu is short, but, from what I've tried, quite tasty. Offerings include salads, hummus, homemade potato salad and mac and cheese and quiche. There are also six sandwiches including basics such as tuna salad on pita, and more interesting choices such as homemade meatloaf with mixed greens, red onion and horseradish mayo (see full menu from last week and more photos of The Saint Catherine here).

Be warned that on weekdays, the only thing you can get before 4 p.m. are baked goods, coffee, or, I suppose, soda and alcohol. There are no eggs or other non-carby options. And no cappuccinos, macchiatos, or even just decaf to be found.

What they do have are muffins and croissants, friendly service, free WiFi and plenty of tables and outlets. Most surprisingly, there are unlimited refills on your $2 joe.

So, if you're looking for a comfortable spot to read the morning paper or get some work done, the St. Catherine is just the spot.

At least until word gets out.
