Shiraz and Iggy Pop? Shop Gives Wine Suggestions Based on Musical Tastes

Washington Avenue's Winey Neighbor goes beyond food and wine pairings.

Washington Avenue’s , a boutique wine shop, is going past the food and wine pairings, says Nona Brooklyn, and is presenting customers with wine and music pairings.

“One afternoon while drinking a nice bottle of Merlot, listening to Nina Simone the warmth of the sun was blanketing our living room, we experienced that perfect moment of Harmony between Wine and Music,” owners Kenneth Tin-Kin Hung and Young Jung write on their web site.

For example, a 2010 Los Nevados Chardonnay from Argentina ($11) pairs well with the smooth musical stylings of Prince, Elton John, Gloria Estefan and Blossom Dearie, while a 2009 Old Plains Raw Power shiraz from Australia ($12), is more up to rock ‘n roll par with Iggy Pop, Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC or Nirvana.
