Cafe-Bar Combo Coming to Washington

Owners hope to open mid-January.

A casual coffee shop/bar is coming to the corner of Washington Avenue and Bergen Street.

The shop will serve as a cafe during the day with coffee (but no espresso machine), pastries, sandwiches and, happily, WiFi, and at night, become a bar with a comfort food/shared plate menu.

“It will be a casual, neighborhood place where people can go to grab a beer or a sandwich,” said Bradford Nicoll, who is opening the shop with Sara Williams, co-owner of Fresh Salt, a cafe/bar at the South Street Seaport.

The eatery doesn't yet have a name, but goes by 660wash on Instagram.

Both Nicoll and Williams live in the area—Nicoll at Lincoln and Classon for the past seven years and Williams for the past two in Fort Greene. For Williams' second venture, Washington Avenue seemed the natural spot.

“We just liked this area and having been here for so long, we see the potential for more and more people coming in,” Nicoll said.

Nicoll and Williams have applied for a full liquor license for the restaurant. (They have secured Community Board support and are waiting to hear from the State Liquor Authority.) Their hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. on weekends.

The pair hopes to open the cafe mid-January.
