Brooklyn Metal Works Studio Opens on Dean Street

The studio offers work space for local metalsmiths and art jewelers, as well as exhibition space.

Brooklyn Metal Works, a new gallery and studio dedicated to metalsmithing and art jewelry, has opened at 640 Dean St. between Carlton and Vanderbilt.

The brainchild of local entrepreneurs Erin Daily and Brian Weissman, the studio hopes to provide a collaborate space to encourage experimentation amongst its members.

The 2,700 square-foot second floor converted factory space features six semi-private studio spaces available for rent on a monthly basis and bench rentals at daily, weekly, and monthly rates. The studio also offers multiple soldering stations (each with dual filtration fume hoods and individual fume/particulate extractors for the semi-private spaces), an enameling kiln, lockers, and an array of metal working tools and equipment.

Daily and Weissman, with about 30 years of combined experience working with metal and jewelry, plan to offer weekly Q & A sessions with members, open level workshops, 10-13 week project-based classes and monthly critique nights.

The partners are both exhibiting members of the Society of North American Goldsmiths and hold MFA degrees from SUNY New Paltz in Metal. They have been exhibited at The Philadelphia Craft Alliance, The Cleveland Museum of Natural History and The German Goldsmith’s House in Hanau, Germany. Previously, Daily has worked for the Robert Bentley Company, while Weissman specializes in silversmithing and art objects.
