Barclays Center Seeking Brooklyn Food Vendors

The soon-to-open arena at Atlantic Yards is looking to highlight local food offerings at games and concerts.

Developer Bruce Ratner wants the Barclays Center’s food offerings to be “quintessentially Brooklyn,” so arena officials are distributing a survey to find borough restaurants and food service businesses to serve as vendors, says the Daily News.

To qualify, the Daily News says that businesses have to be based in Brooklyn and hold a Department of Health “A” grade, as well as be able to fulfill orders for an 18,000 seat arena.

Barclays Center spokesman Barry Baum told the paper that they were looking for vendors for “everything from pickles to pizza and from silverware to sandwich picks,” and were handing out the surveys through community groups and ads in newspapers.

Arena Digest says that Levy Restaurants is already in charge of concessions at the Barclays Center, and that rights have already been sold for major concession items like soda and beer. The trade publication says that the Barclays quest for Brooklyn-based businesses will “fill in the gaps and add some local color.”
