BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBRARY STRIKES OUT WITH JOSH AT THE PLATE

Last Thursday evening the BPL held a public meeting regarding their plans to destroy the Cadman Plaza Library. At the Community Comm. were representatives from all of our elected officials. None of the electeds were there bacuse it was later learned they held a private-unpublic meeting with the BPL right before the public one. The only community groups at the table were the Brooklyn Heights Association and the Friends of the Brooklyn Heights Library. Both of whom are supportive of the plan to give the library site to a developer (rumor says Ratner). It was learned that 3 Members of the Board Of Governors of the BHA and Ms. Hallen ,representing the Friends had already begun to make site visits to view libraries . One of the Governors, an architect gushed at how lovely the library in a condo box she visited was as reported by Ms. Hallen. The following groups requested to be seated at the table: Atlantic Ave Betterment, Dumbo Neighborhood Assoc.,Citizens Defending Libraries, Concord Village and the Brooklyn Chapter of the NAACP. PS 8 was also mentioned.. All noticed that Mr. Nashowitz's attitude changed markedly at the mention of the NAACP. He changed from his arrogant, puffed up self to a polite civil servant. Interesting! By the way none of the groups have heard back from the BPL about their request to sit at the table with the BHA.
