Another Tapas Bar Coming to Vanderbilt Avenue

Plan B owner's second area venture slated to open next month.


Another tapas bar is opening on Vanderbilt Avenue.

Greg Trautman, owner of is getting ready to open Cork, a wine and tapas bar at 659 Vanderbilt Ave., bet. Prospect and Park places, replacing the shuttered Forest Floor. 

The restaurant, which will seat about 30 and serve "high end" food, according to Trautman, is slated to open next month. 

Trautman, who lives around the corner on Park Place, opened the sports bar Plan B four years ago. 

"I just love the neighborhood," he said. "Plan B has been a great experience and I want to continue that by opening a place to go for a good glass of wine." 

Cork joins , a tapas restaurant on Vanderbilt and Bergen, which opened in 2005. , a golf-themed beer and burger spot on Vanderbilt between Park and St. Marks, is also expected to open within a few weeks.

Can we stop pretending that Beast is a tapas restaurant, its a restaurant that serves things in small portions. Its also a pretty damn good restaurant, but its not tapas. If this is actually a real Spanish place that would be an awesome addition to the neighborhood and something we don't have right now, ditto if it focuses on wine a bit as the name would imply.

Agree. I never liked the feel of Beast. It's dim...dark. It's not comfy. I hope Cork will be a little more upscale. Beast is more grunge...not my style.
