Where to Go With the Kids: May 30 - June 5

Every week we will give you the lowdown on kids events in Prospect Heights as well a selection from Crown Heights, Park Slope, Fort Greene and Boerum Hill.

Monday, May 30

More than 200 vendors from around the world will sell food, crafts, and fashion from African, Caribbean and African-American cultures at the DanceAfrica 2011 Bazaar. There will be face painting and crafts at the Children's Village. Ashland Pl (between Hanson Pl and Fulton St), 12-8 p.m., Free.

Holy Cow India’s benevolent bovines are very important – find out why! Join the fun and create a Hindu-inspired greeting card in celebration of Asian-American Heritage month. Stick around for  (11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., 5 and under), Meet and Greet: Creatues of the Sea (noon, all ages) and Live Animal Encounter (4:15 p.m., all ages).   2:30 p.m., ages 6+, Free with admission ($7.50).

Tuesday, May 31

 Enjoy intriguing books for babies, learn exciting songs and rhymes, and meet other families in the neighborhood at this fun program.  Youth Wing, 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. 0 – 18 months, Free.

 Bring your favorite movies and DVDs and watch them in the library's television room. , Youth Wing - Teen Reading Room, 2:30-5:30 p.m., 13-18 years, Free. 

 Bring your youngsters for fun and song as you sing-a-long with Lloyd Miller. Rousing renditions of itsy-bitsy spider are great for the little ones. , 365 5th Ave (between 5th and 6th St), 10 - 10:30 a.m., $5 per family.

 A weekly story hour for preschoolers with storyteller Tom Stamp. Tom will read from his favorite picture books, play some tunes on his guitar, and lead fingerplays to get everyone singing and playing along. , 315 4th Ave at 3rd St., 10-11 a.m., $5/family.

Wednesday, June 1

 Sing-along with Rollie Pollie Guacamolie. This one (as opposed to Tuesday's), takes place in the garden when weather permits. Call first to make sure it's happening at 718-788-2830.  , 365 5th Ave (between 5th and 6th St), 3:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m., $5 per family.

Knitting for Kids and Teens Learn how to knit, or come pick up some new skills. , Youth Wing, 4-5 p.m., 9-18 years, Free. 

Rain Garden Workshop for Tweens Come learn about the rain garden BPL is building outside the Youth Wing. A special guest from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden will help you do a soil test. , Youth Wing, 4-5 p.m., 8-12 years, Free. 

Kids Sing-Along Join Ivan for this “drum-along” event. , 365 5th Ave (between 5th and 6th St), 10-11 a.m., $5 per family.

Kids Story Time  G. Augustine Lynas and Peter Vadnai created an alphabet guidebook that celebrates Brooklyn. Come hear the story! , 686 Fulton St (at S Portland St), 11 a.m., ages 3-8, Free.

Writing Clinic Celebrate fathers by writing your very own poetry. Bring a creative mind and a notebook to write in. Free books will be handed out (first-come, first-serve)!  , Youth Wing, 1 p.m., 10-14 years, Free.

Creating Art Club Create artistic cards for Fathers Day.  , Youth Wing, 2 p.m., 10-14 years, Free.

This adaptation of  "A Midsummer's Nights Dream" is about a group of construction workers in Prospect Park. Kids can play in the fountain after ths show (so bring bathing suits!). Seating is on the ground. Prospect Park - Imagination Playground (Ocean Avenue between Parkside Avenue and Lincoln Road), 11 a.m., Free.

Come for the food, live music, a bouncy house, ponies, crafts and games. Talented local artists will show art that is inspired by the theme of "carnival." All proceeds will go to P.S. 39, though the carnival is held at P.S. 133.  , 211 8th St, Free. (Rain date: June 5)

 This family-friendly band will perform songs from their kid-inspired collection. All proceeds will be used for a complete transformation of the Mount Sinai Hospitals NIC Unit. , 125 5th Ave (at Sterling Pl), noon-3 p.m., $7 kids/$15 adults/$40 Family Pack (2 adults & 2 kids).

Dance the night away with free admission to Brooklyn Museum. Live music, lectures, and performances fill the museum all night (). , 200 Eastern Pkwy, 5-11 p.m., Free.

 Bring the whole family for workshops and hands-on activities that explore plant and animal life cycles, and enjoy the garden in the Spring.  Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 1000 Washington Ave, 11- 1 p.m., Free.

 Prospect Park Zoo's talented sea lion duo Stella and Beebe perform with the colorful Samba New York percussion band. Samba New York's dancers will teach you the moves and trainers show you how the sea lions can "dance" along too! , 450 Flatbush Ave, 2-3 p.m., Free with admission.

There are more than 250 species of birds in Prospect Park. See some of them at this weekly event that is engaging for both children and adults. The Audubon Center at the Boathouse (just inside the Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave. entrance to Prospect Park), 12-1:30 p.m., Free.

 Make cool all-natural and recycled crafts with a new project each week. The Audubon Center at the Boathouse (just inside the Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave. entrance to Prospect Park). 2-3 p.m., all ages, Free.

 Join a naturalist for cool and fun science activities. AThe Audubon Center at the Boathouse (just inside the Lincoln Road/Ocean Ave. entrance to Prospect Park), 1-2pm, all ages, Free.

 Transport yourself back in time - play games and make crafts just like kids did in 19th Century Brooklyn. Lefferts Historic House at Prospect Park, 2:30-3:30 p.m., all ages, Free.

Sunday, June 5

This 18-mile family-friendly bike tour starts and ends in Prospect Heights, with a brief rest stop at Canarsie Pier. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. Registration is required; limited day-of registration will be available at the Start.
