'Question Bridge: Black Males' Extended at Brooklyn Museum

“Question Bridge: Black Males,” a video installation by artists Chris Johnson and Hank Willis Thomas – in collaboration with Bayeté Ross Smith and Kamal Sinclair – has been extended to July 15 at the . The exhibit was originally scheduled to close on June 3.

Over the past four years, the artists have traveled the nation interviewing over 150 black men in eleven cities like Chicago, Oakland, San Francisco, Birmingham, Atlanta, New Orleans, Philadelphia, as well as here in New York.

The resulting video project contains over 1,500 exchanges on topics like family, love, interracial relationships, community, education, violence, and the past, present, and future of black men in American society – all woven together in a large installation.

Johnson originated the Question Bridge concept with a 1996 video installation created for the Museum of Photographic Arts and the Malcolm X Library in San Diego. For this project, he partnered with video artist Thomas, photojournalist Smith, and Sinclair, the founder of Universal Arts and director of The Beat and Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome.
