Halloween Events in Prospect Heights

From the Haunted Carousel for the kiddos to a "Flappers Delight All Hallows Eve Ball" for the 21-and-overs, there will be something for everyone right in the 'hood.

There's no reason to leave Prospect Heights on Halloween weekend because there are dozens of events right in the 'hood for every age and taste.

For kids there are Halloween parties, arts and crafts, concerts ghost stories, film showings, science classes (on spiders and worms) and even a haunted carousel.

For adults there are Halloween parties at , and , a Haunted Walk in Prospect Park and a mummy tour at the Brooklyn Museum.

Friday, October 28

Monster Mash
3pm Brooklyn Children’s Museum is summoning all goblins big and small for the annual Monster Mash party, celebrating the harvest season and Halloween. This festival is not to be missed! Children of all ages are encouraged to attend dressed in their best Halloween finery. Repeats Saturday. Museum will be open 10am–2pm and 3–7:30pm both days and the party starts at 3pm. Haunted Halloween Zombie Dance Party and Film Screening  
4pm  Central Library’s Youth Wing hosts a Haunted Halloween Zombie Dance Party and Film Screening in the Dweck Center, for kids ages 5 and up. Come learn about the ghost of Agatha, who is rumored to haunt the Central Library! Then stick around for a dance party and have your picture taken in a Zombie photo booth. Brooklyn Public Library, Grand Army Plaza — Youth Wing

Boo at the Zoo
The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Prospect Park Zoo is hosting its annual Boo at the Zoo—a family-friendly Halloween extravaganza—all day Saturday and Sunday! Festivities include costumes, arts and crafts, a spooky barn, and treats for the animals that will make this a frighteningly fun weekend. Prospect Park Zoo, 450 Flatbush Avenue

Ample Hills Customer Appreciation Halloween Party
1-10 p.m.
The 6-month-old Vanderbilt Avenue ice cream shop is showing its gratiude with a day of festivities including live music, craft projects, a chance to make ice cream on the ice-cream-churning bike, plenty of free treats and 25% off all day. 623 Vanderbilt Avenue at St. Marks.

Children's Halloween/Fall Fest  
12pm to 4pm This jam-packed afternoon of events will include pumpkin decorating, hula hoop and rock-climbing lessons, face painting, ping pong, chess, a sing-along with Jon Samson, a puppet show and a costume contest. Triangle Park, at the corner of Flatbush Avenue, St Marks Avenue and 6th Avenue, by Flatbush Farm.

Ghouls and Gourds
12–5pm Against the backdrop of the Garden’s gorgeous fall color, show off your costume and carouse with colossal puppets at Brooklyn’s wackiest costume party! Ghouls and Gourds features boisterous live music, hands-on workshops, activities, collaborative arts and crafts projects, and a program of celebrated children’s book authors and illustrators all with a special Victorian theme for 2011. Haunted Walk & Carnival
12pm Deep in the Park lies Lookout Hill, home of the annual Prospect Park Haunted Walk. Take your chances with the ghouls and goblins lurking within the trees ready to scare you silly! Young children should be accompanied by an adult. Free. Rain or shine. Saturday only. Volunteer opportunities available! Prospect Park, Nethermead/Lookout Hill. 

Haunted Carousel
12–5pm It’s time for a spooky, scary, spin on the Haunted Carousel. Who knows what little creatures will accompany you on your ride. Through Sunday. $2.00 per ride. Prospect Park Carousel, Children's Corner 

Musical BOO-Fest
1pm The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music presents ghoulish selections performed by costumed characters with strange and haunting instruments! Also enjoy face painting, a costume contest and candy! Central Library, Dweck Center. 

Creepy Crawly Halloween
1–4pm Take a second look at the creatures that give you the creeps—you may find you like them! Spiders and worms are just a few of nature’s wonders that we would have tough time without. Fun crafts and experiments! Repeats Sunday. Free.Prospect Park, Audubon Center. 
 
Scary Stories From The Past
2 & 3pm Listen to master storyteller Tammy Hall keep the tradition of scary stories alive with tales that were told in the village of Flatbush 200 years ago. Make sure you’re sitting next to someone braver than you! Repeats Sunday. Lefferts Historic House, located inside the Prospect Park Children's Corner. 

Skeleton Cut-Outs

The Flappers Delight All Hallows Eve Ball

Creative Art-Making: 1920s Headdresses and Accessories with Kae Burke
2–4pm Just in time for your 1920s Halloween costume, Kae Burke of Make Fun Studio leads this workshop in how to design and create your own headdresses and accessories inspired by the special exhibition Youth and Beauty: Art of the American Twenties. There is a $15 materials fee, and registration is required. Register online at museumtix.com or in person at the Museum’s Visitor Center. 4pmNot in Prospect Heights, but so nearby we wanted to include it: BAM’s 10th annual Halloween extravaganza includes live music, roaming entertainers, a puppet show, games, candy giveaways, costume contests, and more. Lafayette Ave & Saint Felix St., 4 p.m. Free.

Trick-or-Treater Treats
Start your trick-or-treating off at Ortine on Washington Avenue. Try a pumpkin pastry and pick up a special treat for your candy bag! Ortine, 622 Washington Avenue

6:30pm Again not in the 'hood, but a pretty big deal in this area, so we wanted to include it. The parade will follow last year's route, beginning on 14th Street and proceeding up Seventh Avenue. It will turn left on Third Street, and end at the Old Stone House, where the revelry continues until 8:30 p.m. and you can enjoy music from parade favorites Paprika and Hearts of Steel.

11:30pm Wrap up your Halloween festivities with this classic sing-along cult-film. , 683 Washington Ave. bet. Prospect and St. Marks, no cover.
