Malkovich and “The Infernal Comedy” at BAM
Famed actor of the stage and screen, John Malkovich will come to Brooklyn Academy of Music to perform "The Infernal Comedy."
Legendary actor John Malkovich will grace the stage at Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House, November 17-19, in “The Infernal Comedy: Confessions of a Serial Killer.”
The play is based on the real-life story of Jack Unterweger, an Austrian serial killer. After being sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a young girl in 1976, Unterweger gained fame for his memoir, “Purgatory,” written in prison. When he was released on parole in 1990, he started a new career as a journalist and was praised for his rehabilitation and success outside of jail. As a free man, he then went on to murder 11 more women on two continents.
Two sopranos and the Orchester Wiener Akademie, who perform live arias by Mozart, Vivaldi, Haydn, and others, join Malkovich onstage as he performs as Unterweger confessing his tale from beyond the grave.

Before the show, on November 16, will host an artist talk, “Staging a Serial Killer,” featuring Malkovich, director Michael Sturminger, and conductor Martin Haselböck.
