Best known for their lively daytime family concerts, the Deedle Deedle Dees also come out at night to play raucous shows where bluegrass meets Bollywood, klezmer gets all confused with mariachi, swing morphs suddenly into bad R&B... yes, it sounds terrible, but (nearly) everyone goes home happy after seeing the Dees play. People have been known to fall in love -- with the band and each other -- during the barely-contained chaos that is the Deedle Deedle Dees after dark.
At Branded on March 23, the Dees will be celebrating the birthday of leader Lloyd Miller (AKA Ulysses S. Dee) with a grown-up version of their immensely popular variety show. Confirmed guests included Dee alums Anand Mukherjee (Innocent Dee) and Tavo Carbone (formerly and forever Friar Dee, now ringleader of the critically-acclaimed Horse's Mouth), The Greatest Karaoke Singer the World Has Ever Known Molly Franklin (doing a duet on a Bollywood classic with Mukherjee), and members of the Red Hook Ramblers, New York's finest New Orleans-style jazz band. It's going to get crazy. Yes, Lloyd will rap.
