RAFT Early Morning Music Performance

RAFT is the solo work of Pat Noecker. He is best known for his work with the bands LIARS, n0 things and These Are Powers. Noecker has toured with everyone from Sonic Youth to Suicide and The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. He has collaborated on six full-length records to date and is currently recording for his solo project RAFT.

RAFT was born shortly after the split up of LIARS in 2002. RAFT has been a project devoted to the more experimental leanings of Noecker and is heavily influenced by sound and video and, as Noecker says, “I approach music like sculpture. Electricity and strings are my tools that help the sound take shape. And I incorporate video because it has become a way for me to visualize the invisible, the shape of music. The end result is mood.”

LaunchPad will feature RAFT’s latest project “Observer Observed, An Abstract Occupation.” It will showcase him in the front window of LaunchPad within an installed art piece from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. for three pre-Thanksgiving mornings, November 21st-November 23rd.

The instrument he will be playing is a handmade bass/harp/kalimba called The Burner Bass. It was designed by both Noecker and one of Europe’s premiere custom avant instrument builder and designers, Yuri Landman of Utrecht, Holland.
