Planet Under Pressure: Climate Change and Mass Transit
On the August Sunday after tropical storm Irene blasted through the five boroughs, New York City exhaled. Manhattan hadn’t flooded, and the subway system was not submerged in salt water, a fear that led to the unprecedented step of shutting down the entire transit system. Andrea Bernstein leads this panel on climate change’s potential impact on our mass transit network. Presented in conjunction with “Planet under Pressure,” an international conference focusing on solutions to the global sustainability challenge (www.planetunderpressure2012.net). Pre-registration is suggested.
