5 Things You Need to Know Today: Belly Dancing, Crafts, Leonard Lopate and More

Neighborhood events and information you won't want to miss.

2- You need to get some culture. If you're a WNYC junkie, head to the Central Library for , hosted by Leonard Lopate. 10 Grand Army Plaza. 4 p.m., free.

3- You need to get the kids out of the house. Head to the Brooklyn Children's Museum for a craft workshop where kids 5 and under make holiday ornaments and learn about family traditions around the world. Pre-registration required. Call (718)735-4400x106. 11:30 a.m. Can't get in? There's also a host of other events at the museum today including Santa, a presentation on sea urchins, holiday story telling and more. 4-You need to … sing! Luckily, today is the annual Jingle Bell Jamboree, a concert and sing-a-long at the Old First Reformed Church, 729 Carroll St., Park Slope. 7 p.m. Suggested donation $10 plus an unwrapped toy.

5- You need to ... let someone else sing. Join TamarRaqs as she ushers in the year's shortest day with her ("celebration" in Arabic) series at BAMcafé Live. The performance features music from the Middle East and North Africa, dancers performing raqs sharqi (belly dancing), and a host of special guests. 9 p.m., free.
