5 Things: LAVA at BAM and DA Candidate Forum

Plus Painless Parker at The Way Station and Liam McEneaney at Union Hall.

1. Laugh in the hall. Go to Union Hall and listen to Liam McEneaney tape a live album with Rob Paravonian and Myq Kaplan. International headlining comedian McEneaney will record his debut album for ASpecialThing Records at Union Hall tonight. McEneaney has been on Showtime, Comedy Central and other stations. If you need a laugh before the weekend, don’t miss this event at 8 p.m. for $8.

2. Meet the candidates.
If you want to get to know the politicians running for office, come join Prospect Heights Area Democrats for Reform for Meet the Candidates with John Liu, Charles Hynes, Ken Thompson tonight at Duryea Church, 362 Sterling Pl, at 7 p.m. John Liu is running as a Democrat for Mayor; current Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes is running again and Ken Thompson is up against him.

3. Listen to music.
Stop by The Way Station, 683 Washington Ave, and hear Painless Parker + Baroque & Hungry + The Waysties play at 8 p.m. Painless Parker is a mixed bag of country laments, sea shanties, murder ballads and classic rockers, filtered through a grimy, whiskey-stained punk lens. Baroque & Hungry is a high-energy Celtic fusion trio, while The Waysties play raucous Irish songs and Irished-up rock covers.

4. Dance. Come to Brooklyn Academy of Music for the dance performance LAVA The Rocks. Brooklyn-based dance troupe LAVA premieres The Rocks, directed by Sarah East Johnson and featuring six new works that push the boundaries of gravity, dance, and the female form. BAM Fisher Fishman Space, 30 Lafayette Ave, 7:30 p.m., $25.

5. Move your car. DOT’s alternate side parking rules are in effect today.
