Thanksgiving for All

A brief look at some organizations that are providing food to New York's Hungry this Thanksgiving.

According to the Food Bank of New York City, hunger afflicts over one million residents of the five boroughs.  Here's a list of organizations that are opening their doors and providing food for those in need this holiday season.

Saint Augustine Roman Catholic Church, on 116 Sixth Ave, is serving Thanksgiving dinners with all the trimmings for needy families and individuals. Vans will also be available for transportation. The church is distributing Thanksgiving dinners to the homebound. Call (718) 774-0466 to make a reservation, or to schedule a van ride or food package drop off.

The Bible Tabernacle, located at 1368 Saint John's Place is planning on giving out cooked turkeys on Thanksgiving. For more information, contact (718) 467-3040.

Park Slope Christian House is serving Thanksgiving to needy individuals and families. Doors open at 11:30 at 200 4th Avenue, Park Slope. Financial donations are gladly accepted. To contact the organization, call (718) 237-2962

Providence House is giving Thanksgiving meals to homeless women and children, and women recently released from parole. They are accepting donations for hygiene products such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and lotion. Contact Paula Migliore at migliorep@providencehouse.org to learn more.
