PHOTOS: Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival

Diverse crowd celebrates Japanese culture amid blossoms at peak bloom.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is hosting its premiere event, the annual , a celebration of Japanese culture from dance, to food, to music, to fashion.

Not only are the blossoms in full bloom, delivering on a promise of pink beauty, but in every corner there are performances of Japanese culture ranging from traditonal to modern.

The festival also attracts lovers of Japanese pop culture, especially lovers of anime, both movie and TV series characters, Japanese game characters, and Japanese street fashion called Lolitas.

The festival continues today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Events are free with garden admission: $15  for adults and $10 for senior citizens and students. Children under 12 and garden members are free. Members also get to bypass the admission line, which can be long.
