Water-slides and squirt-guns helped kids and adults alike escape the heat at Saturday's 4th Annual Franklin Avenue Kids Day.

Despite the blistering heat, or perhaps because of it, hundreds of residents flooded Franklin Avenue on Saturday, July 23, to celebrate the 4th Annual Franklin Avenue Kids Day.

Organizers turned the stretch of Franklin Avenue between Sterling Street and Park Place into a mini-carnival and water-park where parents and kids could slip, slide and splash around.

Franklin Avenue Kids Day has become a neighborhood tradition since it first started in 2008 at a nearby skate-park. This year there was worry that the funding goal might not be reached in time, but and with their help event organizers were able to put on quite a spectacle.

Kids dashed with squirt guns and zipped down one of three towering water-slides. There was also a Sesame Street-themed bouncy room along with classic carnival standbys like a dunk tank, hammer and bell, and cotton candy. Brave souls scaled a rock–climbing wall that rose high above Franklin Avenue and kids and grownups alike horsed around in the amusement park created right in their own back yards.
