NY State Senator Eric Adams Offers Free "Safe Child Cards"

Prospect Height residents can obtain them on Sunday at the Brooklyn Central Public Library

With the tragic killing of 8-year-old Lieby Kletzy still hitting home for plenty of Brooklyn families, New York State Senator Eric Adams has decided to step in.

In partnership with Youth America, Adams is offering parents and kids the opportunity to obtain a free safe child card this Sunday at the Brooklyn Public Central Library (10 Grand Army Plaza, Youth Wing Program Room) from 2:00-4:00pm.

In less than two minutes, the cards are processed and families can have a safe child card that includes a child's name, basic biographical information and a fingerprint image of both index fingers.

Parents and guardians will also have the option to store the information in a statewide electronic database. In the event that a child is reported missing, the data will be released to police agencies within minutes, thereby dramatically increasing the chances that a missing child will be returned home safely.

The storage of this information is completely voluntary, but requires the written consent of a parent or legal guardian.
