A happy ending to what seemed like a futile situation took place on Sunday, as a dog that went missing in Prospect Park more than a month ago was finally returned to its owners.
Winston, a one-year-old West Highland White Terrier, went missing in Prospect Park's Long Meadow on August 5. Although the dog was found trying to cross Eastern Parkway and handed over to a police officer in 77th Precinct by a good samaritan, three women convinced the officer who had the dog that Winston was theirs, and he was ultimately released to them.
A $1,000 for Winston's return was announced on August 8. No leads were found for weeks, but it was reported yesterday in a news tip from local resident Christina Wilkinson that the dog was returned to the rightful owners by a woman from Brownsville. The woman recognized Winston from flyers in the area and contacted the owners directly.
