Great Escape! Bird Watching

Get out of the house and into the park today to sneak a peek at some beautiful birds.

You don’t have to head to the to sneak a peek at some of nature’s most interesting animals. 

Prospect Park has played host to some of the East Coast’s rarest birds, like the tiny Saw-whet Owl and the Pied-billed Grebe, a small, stocky water bird. The park is also home to a variety of equally beautiful, more common species such as the Green Heron and the Red-tailed Hawk.

Wintertime is a great time for birding – as there are no leaves on the trees, it’s much easier to spot what you’re looking for.

So today, head to the Audobon Center at 10 a .m. for . There's also introductory bird watching tours every Saturday at noon. A guide will lead you on a walk through the park, pointing out some of the park’s prettiest species.

Of course, for those seeking guaranteed success, the Brooklyn Bird Club has also set up feeders, where bird lovers are almost always guaranteed a peek at a few of the park’s 250 species of birds.
