Brooklyn Prepares to Remember 9/11

Brooklyn invites neighbors to commemorate loved ones lost and memories shared.

For those who will be observing the tenth anniversary of 9/11 this Sunday in Brooklyn, here are some sites, ceremonies and events to look for.

Prospect Heights' will host a  to honor those who lost their lives in 2001. Sherman Chamber Ensemble will play the Opus 15 elegies of Gabriel Faure, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Bedrich Smetana's in G minor.

St. Augustine's in Park Slope is holding a vigil and special service at 11 a.m. Doors are opened to anyone who wishes to share in honoring the victims of 9/11.

Celebration of Live “Be In!” will be held at the Warren St./St. Mark's Community Garden, where local artists commemorate 9/11 with a full schedule of art activities, healing rituals and potluck refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.

On Sat. the 10th, the Brooklyn Arts Council holds "Rethinking Memorial," a ten-artist interactive exhibit experience honoring the many perspectives and memories from 9/11.

In 2001, St. Ann's Parish of Brooklyn Heights played an important role on Sept. 11th, serving as a haven and emergency safe house for people in need of shelter and care. This year, the parish honors the memories of those who lost their lives, and remembers those who helped New York recover, with Sanctuary Still, an afternoon of the work of Brooklyn's authors, leaders and community members. Musical guests the String Orchestra of Brooklyn, Grace and Spiritus Chorale of Brooklyn, and the St. Ann’s Choir will perform their music for guests.
